It's the smothering silence of change
that frightens us to the core
not the departing nor absence
just knowing what was is no more
The total lack of necessity
No reason to rise with the sun
The cavernous space created
when chores finish
one by one
It's the familiarity of a face long forgotten
an image you can't quit recall
the revisiting of a place very vague
that you're not sure existed at all
The resurrection of dreams from deep slumber
dreams so obscure, from afar
The remembrance of who you once were
The rebirth of who you are
(I wrote this poem in 1996 when my last child left home
In hindsight , empty nest was nothing to fear
Now that chidren are grown and work is done
Time is a new word added to my vocabulary
and a new chapter begins
come
join me on my journey and we will inspire one another)
